One might say this is a strange story, a retelling of the old French tale of Tom Thumb. It is French, it takes place in France and involves 7 brothers. Yann, the littlest and youngest of the brothers decides to scare everyone into running away to the ocean one night, and a bizarre adventure unfolds through the eyes that see it happen. THE PULL OF THE OCEAN by Jean-Claude Mourlevat will keep a good reader's interest, and would be best for above 6th grade.
