THE MOON LOOKS LIKE WHAT?!
Many Moons by Remi Courgeon illustrates what we've always known - finger nail clippings do look like tiny crescent shaped moons. Each night a different person sees the moon and it reminds them of a variety of things from a banana to a smile.
This is a lovely and unexpected book on the daily changing shapes of the moon and what it images and thoughts it evokes. It's basically the night version of looking at the clouds as they pass overhead.
For preschool to second grade.

A NEARER MOON
A
Nearer Moon written by Melanie Crowder is a story about a young girl, Luna, who is
determined to save her little sister.
The story takes place in a village where over the years the swap
water, as the elders say, has been cursed. Luna’s mother had three rules
never to be broken: don’t go past the
bend in the river; don’t go below the dam; and steer far away from the slick.
The book touches on important topics such as sisterhood, environment and determination with Luna’s character portraying bravery and wholesomeness and amazing sisterly love.
This book is for ages 8-12 but it is slow-paced and a little complex in the beginning.

IS THE MOON REALLY FOLLOWING YOU?
The Moon is Going to Addy's House written and illustrated by Ida Pearle takes a simple but universal idea and turns it into an inventively breathtaking picture book. On her way home with her family after a playdate at her friend's house, Addy is intent on watching the moon in the sky as it appears to follow her along the way.
Pearle uses the perspective in her brilliant cut-paper art in mesmorizing ways to relate that familiar childhood feeling that the moon is moving across the sky as you travel, alternately high and low, near and far. The simple yet rhythmic text--"Look way up high and way down low. There it is, still!"--pairs seamlessly with the dreamy illustrations to explore this enigmatic natural phenomenon.
This versatile book is perfect both for sharing with a group or exploring one-on-one at bedtime with toddlers and preschoolers alike.

MURDER IN SPACE
Imagine being one of the first humans to live on the moon. Pretty cool, right? When Dashiell Gibson and his family were invited to live on Moon Base Alpha, they were promised a once in a lifetime experience. Upon his arrival, Dash realized that the place was not at all what they were promised. He wished he and his family had stayed in Hawaii instead. His parents, both scientists, spent most of their days working, which left all the kids to find things to do on their own. With limited space, activities, and terrible food, Dash became very bored with his new living situation.
One night, Dash heard the top scientist, Dr. Holtz, talking to someone about making a big announcement the next day. However, by morning he was discovered dead. They announced his death as an accident but Dash, having heard Dr. Holtz the previous night, believed it was a murder and he wasn't the only person to believe this. Will Dash find the murderer amongst them?
Space Case by Stuart
