BILLY STARTS SECOND GRADE

IS IT NEWBERY WORTHY?

Billy Miller starts the second grade year with trials and tribulations.  With a bump on his head from a fall he took during summer, the damage might have caused him to not be fit for the second grade.  He also experiences some bullying from a classmate who sits right next to him.  If that is not enough, he thinks his behavior might have caused his teacher to dislike him.  As the school year passes, Billy experiences many difficult times but throughout the book, with the help of his family and teacher, he learns how to handle certain situations better.   Along the way, he helps and impacts those who have helped him as well.
The Year of Billy Miller by Kevin Henkes is a nice story about a young boys experience in second grade.  This book would make a great second grade classroom read aloud.  This book is also a good read for children grades 2-4.

MEET MEDUSA JONES!

If you have been enjoying Rick Riordan's books such as the Lighting Thief, than you are to sure enjoy Medusa Jones. However, one of the cool differences is that Medusa Jones is a girl... She is one feisty, smart and cool girl that has a best friend who also happens to be half horse but still, she does not understand why that would be an issue and why her school mates are mean to her.

The question arises... will she ever use her special abilities to turn people into stone or will she find more traditional ways to deal with people that are getting on her nerves. In addition, Medusa also has to deal with the occasional hair issue that every girl has, the difference though is that Medusa's hair turns into snakes, so on top of all the things that she has to deal with, now she also needs to worry about her "headsnakes" as well. MEDUSA JONES by ROSS COLLINS.

For grades 4th and up.

WAFFLE ON A WAFFLE?

Primrose Squarp's parents are supposed to be lost at sea. A memorial service has taken place in honor of her parents and yet she still doesn't believe that she is an orphan.
Primrose believes that her parents are stuck on a remote island and are waiting to be rescued. This gives her the hope and the strength to deal with all the craziness in her small hometown.
If you want to read something really entertaining, than this is the book for you. One of the coolest things is each chapter is followed by an easy recipe that will not only satisfy your stomach, but also your appetite for some good reading. This is a laugh-out-loud, funny story about Primrose’s adventures and misadventures. EVERYTHING ON A WAFFLE by POLLY HORVATH is everything a funny book should be, and you should definitely try to read it while eating waffles.

For fourth grade and older. This title is also available as a sound recording.
